Data Garden is an artificial garden generated from user interaction data. The work transforms abstract information into an evolving visual ecosystem, allowing data to be perceived not through charts or numerical interfaces, but through forms of growth, variation and transformation.
Each flower structure corresponds to a different user segment. Leaf formations, stem lengths, density and growth behaviours change according to shifting patterns within the data. As these patterns evolve, the garden reorganises itself: larger segments continue to expand and transform, while smaller segments remain in budding states, holding the potential for future growth.
The garden is therefore never entirely fixed. It reflects the changing relationships within the dataset and produces a visual landscape that develops over time. Data is treated not as a static record, but as an active material capable of generating form, rhythm and behaviour.
Positioned beneath the botanical structures, the machine-like system refers to the normally invisible infrastructure through which data is collected, read and interpreted. It translates information into a living visual language, connecting computational processes with organic forms. While the garden appears to grow naturally, its behaviour is shaped by an underlying system of analysis and classification.
This relationship between the mechanical and the organic lies at the centre of the work. The machine processes information, while the garden gives that information a visible and continuously changing body. Together, they form an artificial ecosystem in which data becomes a condition of growth.
Data protection and participant privacy are integral to the architecture of the system. The work does not reveal individual identities or create personal portraits. Instead, it visualises collective patterns and relationships, transforming them into a shared, evolving environment.
