Symbiotic Vault by Ecem Dilan Köse

Symbiotic Vault — Entanglements of Human, Nature, Machine is a three-artist exhibition curated by Tima Jam at Kasa Gallery, Sabancı University, Istanbul, presented within Art Voyage Biennial, with Paulo Arraiano (Portugal) and Rebecca Najdowski (USA/Australia).

Ecem Dilan Köse’s works approach the future as a material condition rather than a prediction. In her practice, the future is not designed as a complete image. It emerges through contact, pressure, accumulation and transformation.

The sculptures made from cotton and resin exist within this uncertainty. Cotton is grown; it absorbs moisture, carries traces of touch and remains closely connected to the body. Resin encloses, hardens and suspends. Placed together, the two materials do not simply stand for nature and technology — the resin protects the cotton, but it also restricts it; the cotton gives structure to the resin while remaining partially concealed within it.

The resulting forms appear familiar without becoming identifiable. They may suggest tissue, bone, mineral growth or an organism in an early stage of formation — propositions for another kind of life, shaped through unfamiliar alliances between matter, technology and environment.

Within Symbiotic Vault, the vault becomes not only a place of preservation, but a chamber of formation. What is preserved is not a completed form. It is potential.
